The drop-in open studio is a place for lovers of the human figure in the Montclair area to get together to draw, paint, chat, and form community, all while working with a live model. We meet every Saturday from 10AM - 1PM, and every other Friday evening from 7-10:00PM, to draw or paint.

You can sign up online or just drop in. Purchasing online guarantees you an easel or an art horse. There are 9 H-frame easels and 4 horses. Depending on the size of the group, my personal work easel as well as two outdoor easels are also available. There are plenty of folding chairs as well.

It also isn’t uncommon for someone to just sit on the floor, so you’re welcome to that as well.

Please bring your own materials for drawing or painting.

A note about parking… it really is not that terrible.

On Friday nights, street parking is free and freely available.
Saturdays are a different beast with the breakfast and brunch crowd. If you can find a spot on Watchung Ave or the back parking lot, it is metered 2 or 3-hour parking. N Fullerton Street has free street parking and usually there is plenty of space to park, but the tradeoff is a bit of walking. A block up on Watchung, going towards the Parkway, usually has ample 4-hour parking as well.
