Gazing Deep Into the Human Figure, part 1: The Human Torso
February 8-9, 2025 , from 10 AM to 2 PM
$250
Join celebrated artist and author Roberto Osti for the first in a multi-part anatomy masterclass series…
In this figure drawing course, we will practice using the structural, proportional and anatomical characteristics of the human body to create proportionate, anatomically sound, aesthetically interesting drawings of the figure from live models in a variety of poses, using traditional figure drawing techniques: graphite on white paper, charcoal and chalk on toned paper and reduction technique.
This course is also the first of a series of workshops dedicated to figure drawing and figure anatomy. In each workshop we will direct our attention toward the structural, anatomical and morphological aspects of a segment of the body: the torso, the legs, the arms, hands and feet, the head and neck.
In this first workshop, we will discuss the male and female torso, progressing from the skeletal and muscular structures to the external forms of the body.
Each one of the two, 4 hour sessions, will start with a 30-minutes demonstration followed by 3:30 hours of life drawing with model.
Materials
A drawing pad of good quality paper such as Strathmore Drawing series 400, medium surface about 14” by 17” or any other type of drawing paper of decent quality. Don’t use newsprint.
a sketchbook for taking notes during the morning demonstrations
Graphite pencils in HB-B gradations, colored pencils in black, blue and red earth, (such as burnt Sienna or Indian red).
You can also bring compressed charcoal pencils in hard, medium and soft or B, 2B and 4B. Wolff’s carbon is a particularly good brand, but General’s is also sufficiently good and cheaper.
kneaded eraser and/or Mars plastic eraser; sharpeners and sandpaper.
You might also want to bring a couple of sheet of tan toned paper and white chalk pencils
Each one of the two workshop sessions will start with a 30-minutes demonstration followed by 3:30 hours of life drawing with model.
